
UNIVERSITY OF VERMONT COURSES
These courses are taught as a sequence, through the department of Continuing Education. The departments of Asian Studies, Nursing, and Nutrition Science have approved each of these, respectably, for college credit. 
#1 INTRODUCTION TO TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE (TCM). Emphasis is on Chinese history and culture as it relates to TCM. This course gives a general overview of Yin/Yang, Vital Substances, Five Element, Channel/ Meridian, and Organ theories.
#2 APPLYING CHINESE MEDICINE TO ASIAN BODYWORK THERAPY. Emphasis is on the Channel/Meridian theory of energy in the body. Students learn Chinese medical massage techniques such as patting, acupressure, gua sha, and moxa. 
#3 THE ENERGY OF FOODS: APPLYING CHINESE MEDICINE TO NUTRITION AND HERBS. Emphasis is on the Organ theory. Students explore the energy and nature of common foods and common Chinese herbs. Students formulate treatment plans to balance yin and yang using Chinese nutrition principles.

PRECEPTORSHIPS/ INDIVIDUAL STUDY
This program is designed for students who have completed the UVM series, health care professionals or students of Chinese Medicine who are interested in the clinical application of TCM. Preceptorships vary and are designed to meet individual needs.
They can include clinical observation of Acupuncture, massage and nutritional therapy as well as ‘hands on’ experience in Chinese medical massage. These clinics emphasize integration of TCM and allopathic (western) medicine and may take place at Essex Physical Therapy, The Community Health Center of Burlington, and The Green Mountain Nursing Home.
Students may also select to meet the AOBTA (Association of Bodywork Therapies of Asia) requirements for Associate and Certified Practitioner.
These preceptorships are not affiliated with the University of Vermont. Tuition varies with length of program.
PRESENTATIONS AND GROUP CLASSES
These are short lectures and presentations on Chinese Medicine, acupuncture, massage and nutrition to community or professional groups. There is usually no charge for short presentations.
